British Ghanaian Abena Oppong-Asare of the labour party has been elected as the next MP for Erith and Thamesmead.

Other Ghanaians who have since been elected in UK are Adam Afriyie, Sam Philip Gyimah, and Kwasi Alfred Addo Kwarteng.

She won with 48 percent and a majority of 3,758, with 64% turnout.

It was declared early on Friday morning that Ms Oppong-Asare will become the new Labour MP for the constituency after she received 19,882 votes.

Joe Robertson the Conservative candidate was second on election night, receiving 16,124 votes.
